CAFOD, the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development, was founded in 1960, initially as an initiative to organize a “Family Fast Day” by a group of Catholic women. This first Fast Day, held in 1960, raised money to support a mother and baby health centre in the Caribbean. The Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales officially registered CAFOD as a charity in 1962.
Here’s a more detailed look at its foundation:-

Initially known as the “Catholic Fund for Overseas Development,” it later became the “Catholic Agency for Overseas Development” (CAFOD). - Part of Caritas International:
CAFOD is the official Catholic aid agency for England and Wales and is part of the wider Caritas International network.
We believe God wants everyone to flourish, yet many people are struggling with conflict, the climate crisis, inequality and injustice.
Across parishes, schools and homes in England and Wales we inspire people to raise money, petition politicians and pray, so that together we can support communities in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East, as they strive to find practical, sustainable solutions to deep-rooted challenges.
We help all people, regardless of background, so that together we can build a better, fairer world – as God intended.
